Rock arch tutorial
This tutorial will show you how to make an arch in rocks. I use PSP 11 but you can use any paint program including MSpaint. |

| Step 1: You need a grey color palette with 6 shades in it. Start drawing the base of the arch with color 2. Nothing to complicated just draw a rectangular prism. The red line is just to show you the prism, the second rock will go over. Don't make your line straight, draw a part and about half way, move one pixel to the side. | Step 2: Draw a rock on top of your rectangular prism. This time make it look a little more like a cube but keep the same technique, don't do straight lines! |

| Step 3: Let's add some more rocks. I won't show you how to make all of them, the only thing to keep in mind is to vary the shapes and height. You can add as many rock you like, make them turn on top to make the arch. Don't forget to put the side of the rock we see on the same side to preserve the correct 3D view. | Step 4: Flood fill the inside of the rocks with color #5, the inside right side with color #4 and the exterior left side with the lightest color of the palette. Follow my indications to help you. |

| Step 5: With the darkest color of the palette, shade the outline. What I do is color in between the rocks where they join. Check out the red version to help you. | Step 6: With color #3 put some shadow in the inside part of the arch. Again, folow the red to help you know what I'm doing! |

| Step 7: With color #5 put some shadow on the exterior side of the arch. Guess what? Follow the red guideline to help you! (ok I think I'm funny here! :P) | Step 8: Let's start shading the rocks. For the tutorial, I will shade only one but you do all of them ok? So with color #3 put shadow on the left side and a little on the bottom of the rock. I use a technique called dithering which looks like a checkerboard kind of pattern. |

| Step 9: With color #4 I'm adding just a 1 pixel line to make the shadow blend with the filling color. | Step 10: Now that we have put shadow in the bottom left corner, I will put highlights in the top right corner (the opposite). Use the lightest color of the palette. |

| Step 11: Last but not least, details! With color #2 add some cracks here and there on the rocks. Shade the line with the 3rd and 4th color of the palette. Follow my colored guideline to help you. You can now shade all the remaining rocks. | Step 12: You now have a rock arch! You can recolor it with other palettes to make it look different and you can also put vines or flowers if you like! |
